The American Chemical Society (ACS) has honored the 2026 Heroes of Chemistry, recognizing scientific teams whose innovations have contributed to sustainability, healthcare, agriculture, and semiconductor manufacturing. The awards were presented on August 25 during the ACS Fall 2026 meeting in Chicago.
Teams from Corteva Agriscience, Gilead Sciences, Novartis, and Qnity Electronics were inducted into the ACS scientific hall of fame for developing products that address important global challenges.
Corteva’s Pyraxalt insecticide provides rapid and long-lasting control of plant hoppers, one of the major pests affecting rice crops. The technology supports crop protection while helping improve yields and reduce hazardous raw material use.
Gilead Sciences’ Veklury (remdesivir) was recognized for its contribution to COVID-19 treatment. The antiviral was the first approved by the US FDA for COVID-19 and has demonstrated activity against several other pathogens in laboratory studies.
Novartis received recognition for Scemblix, an allosteric inhibitor developed for chronic myeloid leukemia. The treatment has demonstrated improved molecular response rates and reduced toxicity.
Qnity Electronics was honored for UV 26GNF photoresist, a nonfluorine technology designed for semiconductor manufacturing that can achieve required performance without PFAS.
