Again has acquired industrial biotechnology company Genomatica (Geno), bringing together advanced biomanufacturing, computational biotechnology, and industrial-scale process development. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 1998, Genomatica has developed and licensed fermentation technologies for producing chemicals and materials from renewable feedstocks, including 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and biobased chemical intermediates. Again, founded in 2021, focuses on using engineered microorganisms and carbon dioxide to produce chemicals such as acetic acid.
The acquisition gives Again access to Genomatica’s intellectual property, computational capabilities, experimental data, and extensive experience in bioprocess development. The combined platform is expected to support applications ranging from molecule and pathway discovery to process development, scale-up, and commercial manufacturing. Again also plans to integrate Genomatica’s AI and computational biotechnology capabilities with its existing AI-driven bioprocess design and scale-up technologies.
For laboratories and chemical industries, developments such as this highlight the growing role of biotechnology, sustainable chemical production, analytical research, and advanced laboratory solutions in developing next-generation chemical processes.
The adhesive could benefit electronics, robotics, and manufacturing by enabling strong, removable bonds. Researchers say its environmental impact should be assessed before commercial use.
