The head has an interchangeable inner joint at the bottom for connection to a distilling column and a full length 10/30 outer member to receive a thermometer calibrated for 75 mm immersion. A tilting funnel in the head receives the condensate and normally returns the liquid to the column. A glass-enclosed iron core attached to the funnel may be energized by an external solenoid at timed intervals to tip the funnel and deliver the liquid instead to a product receiver. The takeoff tube has a 18/9 ball. The head is completely vacuum jacketed and jacket is silvered to improve the accuracy of temperature measurements and minimize heat transfer. The jacket has an internal bellows to allow for differential expansion of jacket and head. Other combinations of interchangeable joint sizes, and pipe flange can be supplied.
